From polar bears and penguins to whales, glaciers and some of the most remote landscapes on Earth, Paul Nicklen's photography brings viewers remarkably close to the natural world.

The Canadian photographer, filmmaker and marine biologist has spent more than three decades documenting wildlife and fragile ecosystems around the world. His work combines photography with conservation storytelling, creating images that can be both visually spectacular and deeply emotional.

For collectors in Idaho, Paul Nicklen fine art photography is available through Sun Valley Contemporary Gallery in Ketchum, with signed prints currently in the gallery and a much larger selection available to explore online.

Who Is Paul Nicklen?

Paul Nicklen is a Canadian photographer, filmmaker and marine biologist whose career has focused heavily on the world's oceans and polar environments.

In 2014, Nicklen co founded SeaLegacy, a nonprofit organization that uses visual storytelling to support ocean conservation. His photography has earned numerous international honors throughout his career, including recognition from World Press Photo and BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

But behind the awards is something much simpler: an ability to make people care about subjects and places they may never experience themselves.

That emotional connection is particularly powerful when his photographs are experienced at full scale.

Why See Paul Nicklen's Photography in Person?

A phone screen doesn't do a six foot photograph many favours.

Scale is an important part of experiencing Nicklen's work. At larger sizes, details in water, ice, landscape and wildlife become far more apparent, and the relationship between the subject and its environment changes.

Seeing the photographs in person also makes it easier to understand which image and scale will work within your own space.

Sometimes you think you want the bear.

Then you meet the whale.

A Big Weekend for Paul Nicklen in Whistler

Our affiliated gallery, Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, recently welcomed Paul for a special signing celebrating his newest book, Reverence.

Nearly 200 guests attended, books were signed in impressive numbers, and several significant photographs found new homes.

Reverence brings together 160 photographs across 360 pages, exploring the landscapes, wildlife and ecosystems that have shaped Nicklen's career.

It was a very good weekend for photography.

And fortunately for our Idaho collectors, you don't need a flight to Whistler to discover the work.
